It is mandatory that Electrical Installation design is based on "Singapore Standard SS 638 : 2018 Code of Practice for Electrical Installations. (Which replaced CP5 : 1998)


Course participants shall preferably have a minimum academic qualification from Singapore Institute of Technical Education (ITE) in Electrical Engineering. 

Objective:

The design, erection and testing for electrical installations in Singapore requires thorough understanding of the Code of Practices. 

This 2-day course aims to familiarize participants with the Code of Practice through the interpretation of its relevant clauses in the SS 638 : 2018. 

Who should attend:

Those working on electrical installations e.g.

  •  Electrical contractors
  •  EMA Licensed electrical workers (LEW) i.e. Electrician, Technician and Engineer
  • Electrical maintenance staff of building services and manufacturing plants.


Those intending to register with the EMA  as LEW


Those assisting the LEW in the design, installation and testing of the electrical installation


Those NOT working on electrical installation but want to know about electrical safety may find the course helpful.

Course Content

  • History of CP5
  • Scope, Object and Fundamental Principle
  • Assesment of general characteristic
  • Selection and erection of equipment
  • Isolation and Switching. Protection against thermal effect, under voltage
  • Magnitude of short circuit current in a 3 phase supply system
  • Protection against overload
  • Protection against short circuit
  • Effective current carrying capacity of cables and voltage drop in cable
  • IDMTL relay/ setting, use of template to plot 3/10 characteristic curve for discrimination
  • Surge protective devices (SPDs), SPD in electrical installation, critical distance between SPD and equipment
  • Effect of electric current in human beings
  • Detail of "Earthed Equipotential Bonding"
  • Protection against electric shock
  • Solar photovoltaic (PV) power supply system
  • Testing of Electrical Installation
  • Medical Electrical Installation
